The activities B and D have the launchMode attribute set to singleTop in the manifest.

When launching a new activity, no flag is specified in the Intent used.

Activity D is destroyed (onDestroy() is called).

Then a new instance D' is created (onCreate() is called).

The stack becomes A-B-C-D'

Nothing happens (no event is called), because the activity D is already at the top of the stack. 

The stack remains A-B-C-D.

Activity D is closed (onStop() is called).

Activity C is destroyed (onDestroy()). 

Instance B is brought to the foreground (onRestart() is called).
